In 1902 Mother Marguerita Marie, Provincial Superior of Kamptee purchased a bungalow FOX ROCK on the outskirts of the hill station of Pachmarhi to begin a Primary School and a boarding establishment. In 1902 Mother Monica began the boarding school but due to financial difficulties the boarding school was closed in 1910. Later it was used a summer residence for the elderly Sister of Kamptee. In 1960 Mother Fancis James, the Provincial Superior, with her Councilors decided to shift the provincial residence to Fix Rock. Thus n 1961 the Provincial House was shifted to pachmarhi from Kamptee (M.S.).
On 8th December, 1964 the foundation stone of the present Provincial House was laid by His grace Rev. Eugene DSouza, Archbishop f Bhopal. In 1967 the Novitiate was shifted from Cusslough, Pachmarhi to Fox Rock. The building was completed in 1968. The blessing was on 31st May, 1968. In the same year we started a Juniorate programme consisting of Doctrinal & Theological formation for our Junior Sisters as per the Directives of the Church (Cannon Law 660). Later, in 1982-83 the Juniorate was shifted from Fox Rock to Regional Training Centre, Bhopal at the request of Most Rev. Eugene DSouza, to begin an Inter-Congregational Juniorate.
The Original vision for Fox Rock was the Provincial Office, Formation (Novitiate & Juniorate) and to conduct seminars, retreats, courses, etc, for our Sisters. Besides the work of administration and formation at present, seeing to the needs of the local church, and in response to the request of the Parish Priest, we very actively take care of the Liturgical and pastoral work of the Parish. We also reach out to the poor around us in the nearby slums and villages, specially caring for the most marginalised. Our present thrust is to live the following of Jesus Christ as Sisters of St. Joseph, reclaiming the prophetic dimension of our charism of communion, responding to the urgent needs of the time.|
In 1993 the original house -Upper Fox Rock was converted into a house of prayer which is open to the Sisters of the province, and others, who desire to spend time in silence and prayer. The main apostolate of this community is Prayer and healing Ministry for far out villagers.
