The inauguration of Karuna Niwas was on 19th March 2007. The Congregation of the sisters of D.S.S. took care of this institution till 29th May 2009. We the sisters of St. Joseph (Srs. Helena, Mary and Lynette) accompanied by the PLT members. Srs. Noella and Maurice arrived in Karuna Niwas on 29th May 2009.

Karuna Niwas is a short stay home for women in distress. Srs. Helena and Lynette are working in Karuna Niwas. Sr. Lynette is replaced by Sr. Mauna from the time we took up this mission, around 20 women and their children have benifited our service. Some are placed for various jobs in different places and we also reach out to all those who seek guidance and prayers. At present we have an inmate with two children due to the harassment of her husband.As a tater development Karuna Niwas also got registration for a care and protection Home for juvenile girls. Other than Kozhikode and Ernakulum there are no juvenile home for the girls in Kerala. This is the third house in Kerala.

At present there are seven (7) girls with us sent by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Trivandrum. CWC decide the duration of their stay here. Children those of school going age are send to school.
Sr. Mary the third member of the community is a full time worker of the Trivandrum Social Service Society (TSSS), as a health co-ordinator. She stays in Trivandrum and comes to the community only on weekends.
Eco-spirituality is very much mingled with our life. We have cultivation of vegetables, bananas, tapioca etc. We are surrounded by the greenery of coconut trees.
Thus by our presence we make effort to promote life to all those who are in our care and those who seek our help.
